Dear Sam,

First of all, I take offense to you generalizing all of us gun control activists in your article. Just because we all believe the same thing, want the same thing, and call for the same gun control measures doesn’t mean we’re all the same. I don’t think you do understand us, actually.

Now that we’re clear on that, there’s some stuff I think you should know about anti-gun violence activists like myself. I also want to take this opportunity to actually show you some facts about assault guns, as I noticed you used absolutely no facts in your recent article.

You mentioned that everyone has a “right to survive” and thus a “right to defend yourself.” While that does make sense to the left side of my brain, I would ask you if you know what’s it’s like to be in the shoes of a poor mother who has lost their son or daughter to gun violence at a school shooting. 98% of mass public shootings occur in gun-free zones (Crime Prevention Research Center,  2014). That means that most of the time it’s the peaceful that are being victimized and violently marginalized.

You’re either pro-gun violence or you’re anti-gun violence. If like me you’re sick of the defenseless continuously getting gunned down, you’ll see that it’s common sense that we institute mandatory gun control so that violent criminals and law-abiding citizens alike will cheerfully lay down their weapons for the greater good so these inexorable crimes can be stopped.

I think it’s cute how you tried to discombobulate me by trying to paint us using our “1st amendment right” to “protest” our “2nd amendment right” as ironic; you must concede then that your “2nd amendment right” is really the right to die by someone else’s toxic masculinity – which, if we’re being honest is the root cause for all assault violence in the world.

Lastly, I just want to say that I don’t appreciate your recent Tweet directed at me and my comrades. This inflammatory assault language cannot be tolerated: it threatens the very threads of social justice that hold our fragile society together!
